Sometimes you have to see the difference to appreciate it. This site helps people understand the difference between standard and high definition television.
SD vs. HD Comparison
High definition television (hdtv) is simply a tv picture with higher resolution or pixel density than standard definition televisions, often called SDTV or SD. Pixels are little dots of colored light that create the images on our tvs and computer monitors. The more dots of light in a given area of the screen, the sharper the picture. SD tv is typically 480i or 480p video mode. High definition is typically 720p or 1080p.
The illustration above shows the comparative pixel resolution between the different video modes. The video below shows a side-by-side comparison of standard PAL (576i) resolution video and 720p high definition video resolution.

Sadly, you can't really get an online demonstration of 3 dimensional hdtv without the required special glasses. The following video shows you what the content looks like without the glasses. It always has double-image quality to it.

This is a cool demo a Korean handheld android device that is hooked up to an hdtv using an hdmi cord. You can also use it to browse the web, watch videos and play other games.
